Court Orders Suspension of RFID
By Online Staff
Posted : 1/13/2010

The Land Transportation Office's project, the Radio Frequency Identification or the RFID is temporarily suspended after the Supreme Court issued a status quo ante order yesterday.

Court spokesperson Jose Midas Marquez says the decision was made to prevent irreparable injuries to the parties should the program be implemented.

Meantime, those who had their vehicles already tagged can ask for a refund at the the LTO.

The controversial RFID created a division among the transport sector, when several of them led by the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines FEDOJAP declared on Monday their support for the project, saying it will help get rid of colorum vehicles in the Metro.

But the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide or PISTON together with Bayan Muna, Gabriela and Anakpawis said it should be declared illegal because it did not undergo a public bidding process.
