Officials of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, together with the Department of Transportation and Communications called for a meeting with transport leaders today in order to stop an impending transport strike on Tuesday.
The transport sector threatened to go on a strike after the MMDA and the DOTC failed to come to an agreement regarding the proposal to have a single traffic ticketing system in Metro Manila.
According to Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization or ACTO President Efren de Luna, under the law, the MMDA is the only agency authorized to issue traffic violation receipts and not the local government units. De Luna adds the existing receipts issued by the MMDA, LTFRB and LGUs only makes it confusing to motorists and drivers.
Meantime, the militant transport group, Pinag-Isang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Opereytors Nationwide or Piston are not joining the planned strike.
